Hi. I'm Emily! I'm so glad you asked:
I have been setting and achieving goals for as long as I can remember.
And I've learned what works and what doesn't work.
I used to be a software engineer at a Fortune 5 company (goal #1). I was and am still extremely grateful for that opportunity, but I felt unfulfilled. Like there was more to life than sitting behind a computer writing code for the man.
I wanted to leave. But I never believed I'd be able to replace my corporate salary with my income from my photography business (goal #2).
Today, I'm happy to report back that I was wrong, and in the best way! 😄
It IS possible to live a fulfilling life with a profitable business as a creative.
The problem is, as artists, we tend to get in our own way, ESPECIALLY when it comes to goals. 😅
I really do speak from experience when I say this. I literally went to business school (I have my MBA, goal #3), but was so far in my own head that I didn't apply what I knew to my business for the first 3 years.
I was too busy being wrapped up shiny object syndrome, which led me to believe that all I had to do was get on Reels, do breathwork, or get a social media manager (actual examples of real life advice) to make more money.
These shiny objects were "goals" that led me in the wrong direction.
The honest truth? There is a repeatable framework for setting goals as a creative business owner.
